In the year 2018, Navtej Singh Johar and others v. In June 2016, Johar and five others from the LGBT community, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India challenging Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. The first Sikh to take up Bharatnatyam as a dance form, Navtej is a Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and is a known name when it comes to the dance form being practiced in India.
